Portfolio Piece #2: Complex Organic Model

Complex Organic Model:

For My Complex Organic Model I made a character named Del. Del is from the future and has a robot arm in place of his missing left arm. He also has what look like sunglasses on but are actually his cybernetic eyes. This robot arm is actually my Hard Surface Model and I combined them for this project.
Del is based on one of my favorite artists, Del the Funky Homosapien, and part of the futuristic based rap group, Deltron 3030. With the thought of the name Deltron 3030 in my head and what those words sounded like to me, I came up with the idea for this model. Deltron to me sounds like a robotic Del, so with that in mind I proceeded to sketch and draw my version of this robotic Del. After many drafts and re designs I finished with the drawn model I used to reference. With that drawn reference in hand, I transferred it to 3DS Max and did my modeling and sculpting in that software. Thanks to their straight up tools I was able to organically construct my character. As I worked, I learned more and more about 3DS Max and all the features they have to make my models as good as possible. I tried to stay as close to the reference as possible but as I worked I kept in mind functionality over form. I ideally would've liked the model to be just like my reference, but as I found out, when it came to rigging, it wouldn't move correctly. After all the issues were fixed and the model was correct, I went on to coloring it. Now I'm not too great with texturing and all that so I decided to make it simple and sweet. The vibrant and simple colors really add to what the model is supposed to be. A simple character with some extraordinary features.
